Meet the American Press

Egypt was of course a big topic on Meet the Press, a weekly program that reviews the week in news. On the show today was Martin Indyk, who says the Egyptian military wouldn't let the Muslim Brotherhood take over. John Boehner was interviewed and said that when people cry out for freedom and democracy, the US should listen, but we should not allow "radical ideologies" to take control of those governments. David says there is no Arab democracy right now.

The American press are asking "What's next?" They take a look at vulnerable Arab nations and Iran. Indyk mentioned that Bahrain has a Shia majority, the first time I've heard that on American TV. I think this is the first time in my life I've seen American mainstream media acknowledging that many Arab governments are "dictatorial" regimes. But no American commentators on TV ever talk about freedom for the Palestinians, and that hasn't changed.
