WSJ: 'In an interview with AFP, the newswire quotes Mr. Maliki saying he won't run for a third term, a reference to the decades-long rule of Egypt's Hosni Mubarak, which could be ending after more than a week of violent protests.
"We would like to correct this article," said Ali al-Mousawi, Mr. Maliki's spokesman. "Maliki said, 'I think that the period of eight years is adequate for the application of a successful program to the prime minister, and if he is not successful, he must vacate his place.' "
In a December interview with The Wall Street Journal, Mr. Maliki said he supports changing Iraq's political system from a parliamentary to presidential, and said, "I am so convinced this is an important achievement that will strengthen Iraq that I am willing to pledge not to occupy any office in the next term." '

Doesnt' this mean Maliki IS ruling out a third term?
If Maliki WERE to step down voluntarily after two terms, it would help secure his place as Iraq's George Washington, and I think it would be very healthy for the democracy.
