Crackdown on Baghdad intellectuals

WP: 'Iraqi security forces detained about 300 people, including prominent journalists, artists and lawyers who took part in nationwide demonstrations Friday, in what some of them described as an operation to intimidate Baghdad intellectuals who hold sway over popular opinion.

On Saturday, four journalists who had been released described being rounded up well after they had left a protest of thousands at Baghdad's Tahrir Square. They said they were handcuffed, blindfolded, beaten and threatened with execution by soldiers from an army intelligence unit.

"It was like they were dealing with a bunch of al-Qaeda operatives, not a group of journalists," said Hussan al-Ssairi, a journalist and poet, who described seeing hundreds of protesters in black hoods at the detention facility. "Yesterday was like a test, like a picture of the new democracy in Iraq." '

Does anyone from the likes of K, C.H. or Don the Penis want to say something like: "Maliki's thugs are murdering protesters," etc.

Maybe one of them was called Neda, you never know.
I went to school with a Neda once, I should try to find her on Fazebook

Maliki has been corrupted by power. He did not win the election but was helped to retain power by the Sadrists.

Maybe in the next election fewer will vote for sectarian groups.

His thugs have killed a number of demonstrators, which is a bad business. The tradition of violence in Iraq, which was developed under Saddam but not started by him, will be slow to fade, I think.

These aren't all peaceful protests Dolly. I don't think the US government would stand by and watch 1000 thugs loot and burn capitol hill either. What government would?

Take a look at the picture in the story I link to. These protesters aren't waving banners and singing kumbaya. They're throwing chunks of concrete. Ever get hit in the head with a chunk of concrete Dolly? Of course you haven't. You wouldn't be able to form a coherent sentence if you had....LOL.

Why do you think these thugs wanted into the Green Zone? To enjoy the scenery maybe? Of course not. They wanted to burn it down, like they have other government buildings.
