What to do when you see 'Muslim garb'?

Juan Williams: “I mean, look, Bill, I’m not a bigot. You know the kind of books I’ve written about the civil rights movement in this country. But when I get on the plane, I got to tell you, if I see people who are in Muslim garb and I think, you know, they are identifying themselves first and foremost as Muslims, I get worried. I get nervous.”

What kind of garb were the 9/11 hijackers wearing? Dishdashas?

The quote is by a man named Juan Williams, a now former NPR reporter who also works for FOX News.

Anyone who says they don't get nervous is a liar or a damned fool. All you can do at that point is HOPE they aren't extremists. I've got enough on my mind when flying. I don't need the added worry about whether my fellow passengers visited a titty bar the night before. I'd just as soon take the next flight.

That said, it was pretty stupid for a black liberal journalist to say something that could be construed as bigotted. Especially while discussing the fallout from a comment made in the same manner by O'Reilly. They were both right, but wrong at the same time. Always us the disclaimer "not all Muslims are extremists" before such comments. That way you can cover your ass, while showing how open-minded and knowledgeable you are.

Good point. They went to great lengths to appear non-Muslim. Why do you suppose they did that?

The vast majority of Muslims I know wear western style clothes every day.

These weren't your everyday Muslims. They were extremists and proud of it. They chose to dress western that day so they wouldn't arouse suspicion. They knew something the liberal media won't allow someone from their own ranks to say. That people in "Muslim garb" make folks nervous.
