Islamophobia on FOX News

Glenn Beck is not anti-Muslim. He has said many times over the years that he has read the Koran and that he absolutely believes that Islam is a religion of peace.

Watch this video below and tell me that Glenn Beck hates Muslims...

As someone who works at FOX, I can also say that the organization is not anti-Muslim either. Much diversity, in fact. One of my co-workers is Muslim and another one has his desk decked out in Obama gear.

The world should be far more concerned about "Islamaphobia" in Europe, not America.

So now we get labeled racists if we're against illegal immigration. And, if Muslims on a plane make you nervous, you're an Islamophobe. That's one sick bitch if you ask me.

Mosques are targeted a lot more often than planes these days. Is a Muslim an Islamophobe if he's nervous going to mosque? What if it's a shiite mosque?

Islamophobia is the new PC meme wielded by leftists and jihadists and terrorist-supporting organizations like CAIR in the US to silence and stop all discussion and critique of Islam and Muslims. Apparently Islam is so insecure, that unlike Christianity or the other major religions, it can't handle criticism or introspection from non Muslims.

Don't you dare even say or do anything to offend Muslims, because they might riot and burn down a KFC in Pockistaan as the Obamination calls it.

C.H., you're working for FOX News? Congratulations man!

MG, if leftist's aim is to “silence” FOX News, they haven't been successful in that goal, have they?

I think Rachel Maddow just wants to show how Islamophobic many of FOX’s hosts and contributors are. She seems to think it’s their strategy to help Republican candidates, especially the Teabaggers. I think she’s right. A separate line for Muslims at airports? You agree with that shit? Juan’s “Mulsim garb” comment didn’t offend me. I’m just embarrassed for him. He exposed his ignorance and irrational fear. No wonder NPR didn’t want him. NPR has high standards. But a separate line at the airport just because I’m Muslim? That would offend me.

Is Rachel Maddow Muslim?

Al Qaeda is not Islam. The more Americans equate Al Qaeda with Islam, the more foolish they look. It's like equating the KKK with Christianity. I guess you need George Bush to tell you not to blame Islam for terrorism. George Bush was smart.

I wonder if Juan Williams gets nervous when he walks into a KFC. He should, because many Muslims eat at KFC.

The fear is not so irrational immediately after a terrorist attack. But after 5 years? I've taken buses and tube all over London every year since 7/7 and I've never felt nervous seeing people in "Muslim garb" or men with long beards on the bus.

It's been 9 years since 9/11 and Americans still get nervous? Permanently traumatized? That has not been my experience when I meet Americans at airports and on planes.

Mojo,

Yep...I'm balancing it with being the drug war correspondant at a local newspaper :)

I must ask...did you see the *entire* clip of Juan Williams making his now infamous comment? He does a pretty good job at coming out against bigotry. I think its really stupid he was fired for this.

This has nothing to do with my views on Muslims -- I don't agree with what he said. I also thought what Rick Sanchez from CNN said was idiotic too, but I still don't think he should have been fired.

It sets a dangerous precedent, where you have to be way too careful about what you say. This is America. I have to say that I thought it was really funny how Juan came on as the HOST of the O'Reilly Factor last night and fired back at his old boss.

I've been to mosques all over the Bay Area, and I have definitely come to the conclusion that most Muslims don't like to be labeled as victims of Islamophobia, as CAIR or NPR might make you believe. I think the majority of American Muslims know they have it better here than just about anywhere else in the world.

It's true that Muslims have it better in America than in most countries, including Muslim countries. Freedom of religion is a wonderful thing, and so is the freedom to reject it.

Freedom of speech is also wonderful, and Juan can say whatever he wants. There are no victims of his islamophobia. His comments only reveal his ignorance and irrational fear of Muslims.

When I was in India last year, I met a Hindu man who was very much a fundamentalist. I encountered him on the walkway connecting the coaches, and he asked me if I was as suspicious of the Muslims on the train as he was (there were a lot of them...in "Muslim garb"). I politely told him I was not.

Its just a reminder that, unfortunately, irrational fear of Muslims can be found all over the world.

"Maury, I probably would have been quite nervous walking into a Shiite mosque in Baghdad in 2006 and 2007."

I don't think that makes you an Islamophobe Mojo. And I don't think it would make you an Islamophobe if you felt that same nervousness today.

The FBI has disrupted 9 "mass casualty" terror attacks on New York City since 9/11. That's an average of one a year. Are New Yorkers who express nervousness at the sight of a Muslim just being stupid, or is that fear justified? What if they lost friends and family on 9/11?

Iraqi Mojo said...

It wasn't just Juan William's comment on FOX (and his subsequent raise at FOX) that makes it Islamophobia on FOX News. It's the combination of comments from those guys. A separate line for Muslims at airports? Really? That comment and the one about strip-searching all young Muslim men are enough to call it Islamophobia on FOX News.

Maury said...

You're absolutely right. Those comments were stupid. Were they made by Fox employees or dumbass guests? Because, I hear stuff that's just as stupid on all the networks. Everyone gets their 15 minutes of fame eventually. I wouldn't blame CBS if David Duke made some dumbass comment to Barbara Walters.

Iraqi Mojo said...

But you make a good point Maury. I was thinking the other day about the people who were there at the WTC on 9/11. I don't blame them for being nervous at the sight of Muslims on a bus or train or plane. But I bet you that most New Yorkers are no longer nervous, just because they are so used to seeing "Muslim garb" on their public transport.

That thinking led me to think about Iraqis who've been shot at by US troops or contractors. I don't blame them for being nervous at the site of Americans soldiers and white folk with guns. So I shouldn't label New Yorkers "Islamophobes" if they get nervous at the sight of Muslims. In the end it's unnecessary fear, and I kinda feel sorry for them if they feel such nervousness.

Maury said...

"and I kinda feel sorry for them if they feel such nervousness."

What about people who feel sheer terror at the thought of going outdoors? Others are deathly afraid of spiders, or tight spaces. There are hundreds of phobias out there. The fears don't have to be rational to be valid.

I think it's wrong to fire someone for expressing a fear about any damned thing. What do we call a journalist who's afraid to express himself now? Expressaphobe?
