"All American Muslim"

'For those constantly fretting about the inability of Muslims to integrate or assimilate into western culture, fret no more!

American Muslims finally have their own reality TV show – the Learning Channel's "All-American Muslim" – focusing on the lives of five American Muslim families in Dearborn, Michigan, who are predominantly Lebanese and Shiite. The show's premiere gave TLC huge ratings and made the show No 2 in its time period. Mainstream critics have embraced the show citing it as "intimate and informative" and a "deeply intriguing, uncharacteristically thoughtful reality series".'

I remember a few people on Angry Arab in 2006 and 2007 who said that I could not be Iraqi and American. I wonder if they know there are hundreds of thousands of Muslims of all backgrounds living in America.

It is interesting they are all Shia.

Is the Qur'an not just a book? Oh yes, it's a very very old book, written by Arab men. That is interesting too, Anonymous.

I really do take interest in the Qur'an, even though I don't believe much of it.

"I could not be Iraqi and American."

They were just ignorant. American is an inclusive term, unlike most of the rest of the world where identity is exclusive. Part of the American experiment and all that. Most of the outside world dose not have a clue...

madtom, proud to be Cuban American

if you don't believe in the Quran you are NOT a muslim. And by believe I mean believing it is from Allah and not from "Arab men".

And do you believe that Allah is the creator of all things, Anonymous?

Wow. Start with the pillars of faith first. Do you believe in the Day of Qiyamah

if he believed in the day of Qiyamah, he wouldnt be an American Lackey

Iraqi Mojo said...

The day of Qiyamah is the day of Judgement, no? American Christians believe in Judgement Day too, just like the Muslimeen:)

but you are none of the above

I want to believe in Judgement Day because I know many humans have been evil and deserve to be punished. But it just doesn't make sense to me, the notion that one day all souls will be judged and will be sent to either heaven or hell. So if I do not believe everything in the Qur'an I will end up in hell with Saddam and Hitler? That would be totally unfair and it would not make sense.

Aren't there various levels of hell and heaven according to Islam? That would make sense.

I believe in the parts of the Qur'an that instruct Muslims not to kill humanity and to be kind to animals.

Apparently Anonymous does not understand why his comment about me being an "American lackey" (because if I believed in the day of Qiyamah, I wouldn't be an American lackey) does not jive with the fact that most Americans are Christians and they believe in the day of Qiyamah. Funny.

Don't be baited Mojo. They want to decare you an apostate and call for your head to be lopped off. Secular Muslim seems to work just fine. I've read the Quran. The only way i could've possibly believed any of it is if I'd knocked my head on the floor all day from infancy while chanting the brainwashing jargon. Even then, I'd probably take the secular route,LOL.

It's sad that I can only get away with saying that because my parents weren't Muslim. For those born into a Muslim household, there's no freedom of religion. Only religious slavery.

mojo u are not a muslim according to Islam itself. In order to be a muslim, you must believe in the Quran 100%.

I wonder if American Shia are in general more tolerant than American Sunna.

mojo i take my religion from quran first then sunna of the prophet (pbuh) then from ahlulbait (a.s.) .... the shi3a are a bit more complex than the sunna but they are more tolerant believe me .. best example your dad and his whole family.

'The Florida Family Association contacted companies to stop advertising on the TLC show. According to FFA, 75 companies pulled their ads from the Dec. 11 and 12 episodes of “All-American Muslim.” The group has chosen not to list the names of the companies because of the “intense scrutiny by opponents.” '
