Don't conflate Islam with terrorism

This is a great article. Many Americans seem to think of Islam as the enemy, as if all Muslims want to see the destruction of America. There seems to be a lot of misunderstanding out there. Yesterday on FOX News I saw coverage of a protest in which a protester held a sign that said "Muslims Danced With JOY on 9/11". Really? Hannity said that Feisal Abdul Rauf, the Imam who wants to build the Islamic center in Manhattan, advocates Sharia law in America. Is that really true? When I first heard about the proposed Islamic center in Manhattan I assumed the money would come from Wahhabi-infested KSA, but it turns out Feisal Abdul Rauf is a Sufi Muslim. The Wahhabis have not been kind to Sufis.

Feisal Abdul Rauf of the Cordoba Initiative is one of America’s leading thinkers of Sufism, the mystical form of Islam, which in terms of goals and outlook couldn’t be farther from the violent Wahhabism of the jihadists. His videos and sermons preach love, the remembrance of God (or “zikr”) and reconciliation. His slightly New Agey rhetoric makes him sound, for better or worse, like a Muslim Deepak Chopra. But in the eyes of Osama bin Laden and the Taliban, he is an infidel-loving, grave-worshiping apostate; they no doubt regard him as a legitimate target for assassination.

As good as the article is, the author asserts: "Had the George W. Bush administration been more aware of the irreconcilable differences between the Salafist jihadists of Al Qaeda and the secular Baathists of Saddam Hussein’s Iraq, the United States might never have blundered into a disastrous war, and instead kept its focus on rebuilding post-Taliban Afghanistan while the hearts and minds of the Afghans were still open to persuasion."

It's a bit simplistic to call Saddamists "secular". Stalin was also secular. It's also a mistake to assume the differences between Saddamists and the jihadists of Al Qaeda were irreconcilable. There were Salafi ties to Iraq before 2003. I remember seeing video of Saddam and King Fahad embracing many years after Saddam's invasion of Kuwait. Obviously the differences between Saddam and the Wahhabis were not irreconcilable.

Back to the point: "While the West remains blind to the divisions and distinctions within Islam, the challenge posed by the Sufi vision of the faith is not lost on the extremists. This was shown most violently on July 2, when the Pakistani Taliban organized a double-suicide bombing of the Data Darbar, the largest Sufi shrine in Lahore, Pakistan’s second-largest city. The attack took place on a Thursday night, when the shrine was at its busiest; 42 people were killed and 175 were injured."

"There seems to be a lot of misunderstanding out there."

Yes, the misunderstanding is on the part of those who don't see that the U.S. is at war with islam. The fact this hated mosque is unrelated to Al-Qaeda is exactly the point.

Bush in 2001 came out and said islam was super, while bin Laden said it was a war on the religion. Only one of them was right, and this mosque controversy shows you who.

Saudi Salafis (KSA establishment) are not the same as Khawarij (Al-Qaeda). They are enemies

KSA holds it permissible and recommended to destroy the Khawarij

Perhaps an interesting thing to note is that Saudi Arabia does not expel the Khawarij (AQ) from the religion.

Like I said earlier there are 73 sects, all of them in the Fire except 1. Meaning: the remaining 72 will be punished and purified in the Fire first. Ultimately all 73 go to Paradise in the end.

So KSA considers AQ a deviant sect which must be fought, however it remains in the fold of islam.

So when you hear Saudi officials condemning AQ in the strongest terms and calling them an evil cult which must be destroyed. They do mean it,

but if you were to ask them the follow-up question: "Are they muslims in your opinion, and is bin Laden bound for Paradise?"
their answer is ("Yes to both.")

Interesting comment of an Iraqi reacting to the withdrawal of US combat troops from Iraq:

Ikhlas Jaber, an employee living in al-Bayaa neighborhood, southern Baghdad, voiced happiness over the withdrawal of the forces in accordance with the Iraqi-U.S. security agreement.

“It’s a cheerful day. It reminds us with the withdrawal of the Allied forces from the Axis countries after the World War II. Iraqis should start a new life within a real sovereignty,” she added.

LOL!

Sweet irony.

It reminds me of that "withdrawal" too!

But Iraqis, unlike the "Axis" countries, do remind Americans from time to time that withdrawal means ALL of them:

"The first U.S. soldier to die since the withdrawal of combat troops this week was killed in during a rocket attack in Basra today."

its sad, really sad.. Although am not a muslim by any means, but, I cannot stand for any kind of intolerance. The hateful crowd are the same ones, who applauded bush's plans to invade iraq, the same ones that were rejoicing, when Hugo Chavez (a democratically voted president) was over thrown by a dictator. Double standards in this part of the world, can be at best despicable, a country of rebels suppressing all rebellions against all forms of tyranny..

Americans are so hateful. Thank Thank God for the liberal Inteligencia who teaches us the ways of appeasement and self pity.

Rex your wisdom is such that you sound fresh out of college. What else did they teach you? How Saddam built the finest secular country in the whole mid-east until the big bad Americans stated a war for oil?

"So 98.6% of Muslims go to hell along with us infidels?"

Yes. Though not forever, the difference being that polytheists will never be taken out from the Hellfire.

Allah says:

Inna llaha laa yaghfiru an yushraka bi, wa yaghfiru ma doona dhаalika liman yashaa.
(Allah doesn't forgive polytheism; and other than that he forgives whatever he likes.)

So this guy Adel Kalbani, former imam of the main mosque in Makkah was asked whether suicide bombers are OK, or if they are committing suicide.

He said: "In my opinion, it is suicide [i.e. forbidden]. But, it's up to Allah if he wants to forgive them."
So you cannot really say which particular individual is saved.

Sometimes, martyrdom bombers are encouraged by the fact that the martyr is saved from the torture in the grave. And that is really horrible stuff

"the mass murder of the Iraqi Shia and strapping explosives to ones waist to murder innocent women and children shopping in Iraqi markets."

Cry me a river, asshole. You initiated an operation called "Shock & Awe," which was gleefully embraced by your Rejectionist Shia brethren.

After this fact, I don't want to hear any complaints about any of the victims on your side.

This speaks volumes, reflect on this statement:

“Yo, we’re against Muslims, not each other, man.”

Dolly, if your brain was larger than a pea you would know that "quotations" (me) must be referenced.

Dolly,

Those teabagging bastards...they didn't only let out a racist rant, they packed 10 cars with explosives and blew them up in cities all across Iraq today. Yesterday they spilled the blood of dozens of innocent people staying at a hotel in Somalia, and the day before that, they slaughtered many more inside of a mosque in Pakistan...all during Ramadan! Oh, wait a minute...
