Blast kills 7 Iraqi kids at school

Iraqi authorities have not cleaned up the streets and they have not ensured that unexploded ordinances are not lying around (or hidden inside) schools and such. But the Iraqi authorities have banned alcohol! This Iraqi government is lame, a joke. I hope the Iraqi people replace the incumbents with leaders who are capable of bringing true peace and stability to their country.

'At least seven Iraqi children have been killed and 41 people wounded in an explosion outside a school in Baghdad's Sadr City, official sources say.

"The bomb went off near Al-Shahid Ali Yasser school in Sadr City in eastern Baghdad", Voices of Iraq quoted a local police official as saying.

"The explosion happened when a bonfire set off an unexploded shell," Reuters quoted a student speaking from a hospital bed.

Twenty-five students and three teachers were among 41 people wounded. Among the dead were six children aged between of 6 and 12, according to police and interior ministry officials.'

Update: 'The blast that took place near a school in Sadr City earlier on Monday caused by a stockpile of explosive charges hidden inside the school, spokesman for the Baghdad Operations Command (BOC) said.

“Unknown gunmen hide a stockpile of bombs inside al-Aabaa school in Sadr City, eastern Baghdad,” General Qassem Atta told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“The blast occurred when the school principal gave an order to burn the garbage,” he explained.

A security source had said earlier that seven students were killed and 41 others were wounded in the explosion.'
